Nikon Compact Binoculars

Without a doubt Nikon compact binoculars are some of the best on the market. In this round up I include 5 Nikon binoculars that have received a lot of praise from consumers on-line.

In certain situations binoculars can be a godsend for not only you but the friends and family you’re with as well. Up in the cheap seats of a baseball stadium? Use binoculars to view pitches and the game in general. Same applies when going to a large theater. It’s no fun watching performers sing and dance when they look like tiny dolls on a stage!

Concerts are another good place to be using binoculars. Whether you want to look at the singer, band members or dancers or check out what’s going on in the crowd you can watch everything as though you’re sitting much closer to them.

Nikon Compact Binoculars – Terminology

Let’s have a brief look at some of the terminology used in the descriptions below.

* Eco-Glass lenses

Eco-glass does not contain any lead or arsenic, so it is more environmentally friendly than standard glass that contains these elements.

* 8 x 24 binoculars

The first number refers to magnification.  The second number is the diameter of the front lenses. The larger the diameter the better you should be able to see in dim light.

* BaK4 High Index Prisms

These are high quality prisms that “reproduce virtually any visible image to almost exactly what it appears to the naked eye.”

* VR

The more magnification used the more likely you will notice jiggly imaging. The slight movement of your hand or the motion of a car may make it uncomfortable for you to look through your binoculars for any length of time.

VR means ‘vibration reduction’. The last featured Nikon binocular below stabilizes the image by adjusting the binocular’s prisms inside a gimbaled housing. This allows up to  5° of motion compensation on each axis. In short, it improves image sharpness and can help reduce eye fatigue.

The Nikon 8218 is the cheapest binocular which can be had for around $87. The most expensive is the Nikon 16×32 StabilEyes VR that goes for $1399.95.
