Pegasus is a Mercury Class Battlestar. Compared to the Galactica it is newer and more powerful. At nearly twice the size of Galactica and measuring 1.79 km long it surprisingly only needs around half the crew that Galactica has to operate the ship due to computerization and automation.
With vastly superior weapons and armor it is capable of delivering a lethal blow to any enemy ship. It attacks with large anti-ship KEWs, anti-fighter/missile batteries and nuclear weapons.
The flight decks are much larger than Galactica’s with two of them on each side of the ship. Four fully operational flight squadrons of Vipers are at the Commanders beck-and-call. In addition to this the ship is capable of producing new Vipers and has flight simulators on board used to train new pilots.
Does this ship sound wicked or what! 😉
The Battlestar Pegasus Model Kit
Judging by consumer reviews the model is rave worthy. Easy to assemble with all the parts fitting together nicely. It’s great when it comes to detail and has a nice weight to it. Background Information on Battlestar Pegasus
The Battlestar Pegasus appeared both in the original and reimagined television series Battlestar Galactica.
Battlestar Galactica (1978 series)
In the original, it is remembered for joining Battlestar Galactica in a fierce battle with the Cyclons.
Pegasus was badly damaged in that fight but in true badass fashion Commander Cain positioned the ship between the two basestars and launched nuclear missiles from its port and starboard missile bays. Both of the Cyclon Basestars were taken out and the Pegasus mysteriously disappeared.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
In the reimagined series there is a lot of drama associated with the Battleship Pegasus and it’s iron-fisted Admiral Helena Cain.
Six months after the Battlestar Galactica flees with the last survivors of the Twelve Colonies the Battlestar Pegasus happens to jump into the same sector as Galactica. While there is an initial joy felt in discovering each other it eventually gives way to darker emotions.
Admiral Cain ends up taking command of the fleet and makes her heavy handed presence felt. This culminates in the death sentences of Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol and Lieutenant Kari “Helo” Agathon due to the accidental death of Lt. Thorne.
Admiral Adama wasn’t having any of it and sent a strike team of Colonial Marines over to the Pegasus to get his men back. An ugly scene between the two admirals escalates as both sides exchange fire. Fortunately, the standoff becomes an uneasy truce when they find out about the Resurrection Ship. The ship is destroyed and Admiral Cain dies at the hands of a cylon.
Fast forward, Lee Adama becomes commander of Battlestar Pegasus. Learning of the Guardian Basestar and the First Hybrid he successfully seeks out and destroys them.
In it’s last battle with the cyclons though the Battlestar Pegasus is unable to escape and bites the galactic dust in a suicide run with all guns blazing. The crew managing to exit the ship on several raptors before the Pegasus rams and destroys a Basestar. The unfolding carnage takes out a second Basestar close by.
