A Green, Frothy Concoction of Halloween Party Ideas Guaranteed to Deliver!
Well, it’s that time of year again for some fun and mayhem. Here’s a nice blend of Halloween party ideas covering themes and activities sure to deliver good times and laughter at your next goolish Halloween party!
First things first. You have to decide whether your going to have a theme or not.
Here is an idea that borders on morbid, gross and creepy which, of course, makes it ideal for Halloween! Have your guests dress as a favorite dead celebrity. Elvis, Marilyn Monroe or even Alexander Dumas! Take it up a level and zombify your character!
Turn Your Home into a Haunted House
When turning your home into a haunted house start with the outside in mind. Use a red light to create an eerie, ambient effect. Have some props on prominent display. A Frankenstein dummy sitting on a chair just outside your front door. Even better one of your friends dressed up as Frankenstein pretending to be a dummy! When people go to take a closer look scare them! Some tombstones in the yard would be a nice touch as well. Have guests enter the side or backdoor of your home.
As for the inside of your home you only need a few rooms done up. Perhaps the living room, dining room and kitchen if they are joined.
Have a nice looking Jack-o-lantern greeting everyone as they come in the door. Black bats hanging from the ceiling. Some creepy but awesome looking Halloween posters hanging on the walls. Cobwebs, skeletons, candles and any other decorations you can get your claws – ah, I mean hands – on.
Whatever you do, keep in mind any small children that may be attending! You don’t want to cause them nightmares and tears. Blood curdling surprise screams and graphic props that belong in the horrific category are probably best refrained from! Tone things down so they are kid friendly.
Gothic Murder Mystery
A Halloween party fused with a murder mystery party? Sounds fun to me! I’m thinking more along the lines of Goth though. Black laced corset dresses, European style boots and silver jewelry like fire opal dragon rings. Anything black though will do just fine along with pale faces and dark undereye circles. Check online to see if there is a suitable murder mystery kit.
Villains & Heroes
Okay, hands off the Galactus costume! You can be Reed Richards. Have everyone coming to your next Halloween party as a dastardly villain or an ultra-cool superhero. Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Batman and Joker. Dumbledore and Voldemort. Commander Shepherd and Saren. It would be way cooler to have matching heroes and villains so try and organize it or encourage your friends to do so.
This is, of course, great for photo opportunities. Have a nice suitable backdrop. Hero and villain back-to-back looking at the camera as well as group photos. Take it up another notch by getting them to pose as if they are fighting then add some special effects later.
Cult Movie Party Theme
Got a favorite Halloween or spooky movie you like? The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Rocky Horror Picture Show are two movies that come to mind. Choose a movie and have everyone dressed as characters from it. Decorate your home accordingly and be sure to play the best songs and music from the movie. Time warp anybody?
Pumpkin ‘Jack-o-lantern’ Carving Contest
Have a surprise pumpkin carving competition. Pair everyone up and randomly assign them their pumpkin goal. It might be to make a scary, funny or weird looking pumpkin.
This would require a lot of preparation. Carving tools, cloths to conceal the pumpkins for the element of surprise. Candles to put inside the Jack-o-lanterns. If the cost is prohibitive then have people bring their own pumpkins and carving tools to the party.
Don’t waste those pumpkin seeds! Bake some of them in a hot oven until golden brown.
Tree of Death!
Christmas doesn’t have the monopoly on a decorated tree. If you can’t find a black, plastic tree simply buy a christmas tree and spray paint it black. Have lots of little decorations of bats, vampires, owls and so on to decorate it with. Have guests help with the decorating. Perhaps when they first arrive give them two or three decorations each to add to the tree.
Imagine the look on your friends face when you say, “Here are some decorations. Please hang them on the tree of death!”
A Surprise Halloween Feel Box
Time for some wicked fun at the expense of your guests 😉 Go to your local Halloween store and buy a bunch of creepy things. A rubber bat, snake, cockroach, spider and so on.
Now get a box, paint it black and cut a hole in the bottom big enough for your hand to easily fit through.
Put two tables close together but not touching. Place a black cloth over them cutting a hole in the middle of it so you can put your hand into the box.
If you have say 15 people attending your party choose 5 of them and have them wait outside. One of them comes in and puts his or her hand into the box. As you might have guessed someone under the table grabs their hand and gives it a yank. Not only that but a gorilla like hand comes out the top hole of the box and shakes a finger! For the latter make sure the box isn’t too big otherwise it will be difficult to get your hand out of the top.
The guest puts his or hand in the box again and guesses what an object is. Then the next person comes in and the whole thing is repeated.
Halloween Guessing Game
This is a great ice breaker game. Simply tape a picture of a Halloween character on everyone’s back. Then you have to ask questions about the character. Do I wear a cape? Do I fly? Can I turn into a bat?
