Beach Party Ideas to Help Make Your Day Out Great!

In ‘Beach Party Ideas‘ I hope to load you up with some ideas to help pull off a great party. A beach party is a great way to spend the day with friends. Sand and surf, barbecued food and fun activities. What’s not to like?

Beach Party Invitations

First are the invitations. Some people like to give out beach themed invitation cards that have sea animals, surfboards or beach scenes on them. Alternatively, you may like to find a nice beach picture and turn it into a digital invitation that you can email your friends.

Easing Slowly into the Beach Party

If you have just spent two hours or so getting to the beach before lunch time a nice low-key way to start the party is at a local outdoor coffee shop that overlooks the beach. As everyone is sitting close together it’s a good time for introductions and getting to know people you haven’t met before.

Initial Beach Party Activities

It can take a while to get the barbecue set-up and to have the first lot of food out on the table. So before you start bring out some frisbees, a big beach ball and if it’s not too windy badminton racquets and shuttlecocks. If there are children buckets, spades and sand molds are a good addition. If you want to encourage some mischief include two big water guns!

Food & Drinks

As for food, you can’t go wrong with ribs, prawns, steak, sausages, tomatoes and onions. Also, buttered buns or french bread. If you are providing all the food it’s a good idea to find out if anyone is a vegetarian and prepare something appropriate for them. Treat your friends to a signature dish. Something really delicious that will get their attention big time. Maybe Honey
Garlic Plumbed Ribs or Hawaiian BBQ Beef Skewers.  Drinks-wise, try fruit punch. Cocktail drinks like Blue Hawaiian, Painkiller and Pina Colada will go down well, too.

Beach Volleyball

After lunch I like to play a game of beach volleyball with my friends. I use two telescopic rods I bought from the local hardware store and bury the bottom of them into the sand. Then the net goes up and we are set.

Sand Castle Competitions

Hold a sand castle competition and give out a Best on the Beach award. Another option is guess what the sand sculpture is. Break people up into pairs and assign them the letters A and B. Ask the A’s to come out and show them a picture. They have to go back to the B’s and build it out of sand. The first person to guess what it is scores a point. Then it’s B’s turn.

Close Knit Parties

If you are wanting to have a highly charged close knit party on the beach then bring some music. The right kind of music by say Ricky Martin will encourage people to dance. Then there is the classic limbo contest where people have to bend over backwards and go under a bar. Follow it up with a hula hoop contest. Who can hula a hoop the longest and who can hula the most hoops? Finally, give the person with the loudest beach attire the Big Kahuna Award.

For the Adventurous

Some of my more adventurous friends sleep on the beach! After a day of snorkeling or diving they will have a campfire on the beach with several friends. They’ll talk till late at night then fall asleep under the stars. If you do decide to do this keep in mind you may have sand flies or other insects to contend with. Also check to see if campfires are allowed on the beach and whether or not you need a permit to do whatever it is you want to do.

Other Activities

A day at the beach offers something for everyone. While at some beach parties people stick together the whole time at others they only stick together part of the time with people going off to do various things. Swimming in the sea, beach combing and rock fossiking. Flying kites, French cricket or ultimate frisbee. Surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing and jet skiing.

Wrapping Up the Party

You might like to finish your party with a trip to a fisherman’s wharf and have dinner there. You’ll probably find lots of seafood restaurants, interesting shops and boat cruises.

Beach Parties in the Summer Time

Lastly, keep in mind that their are people organizing big beach parties every summer. Check on-line to see if there are any in your area. Invite some friends to go with you and check it out. If you have done a lot of hosting like me you’ll know how wonderful it is to sit back and relax with your friends while other people do the grunt work.
