How to Make a Cherry Pie
Part of what makes this recipe easy is the fact that the pastry in the picture came from a special bakery shop. The cherry filling came out of a can of ‘Lucky Leaf Cherry Pie Filling and Topping.’ That’s what I call off to a good start!
I did make two particular mistakes that newbies should keep in mind when making a cherry pie.
The first is that I had the pastry in the fridge for at least a day and a half so the pastry had turned a little yellow. I should have put it in the freezer if I wasn’t going to use it right away. The cherry pie tasted great none-the-less.
The second is that when you mix flour and butter together it shouldn’t look like yellow play doh when you’re finished! Lol. The end result should look powdery like in the picture below.
Easy Cherry Pie Recipe
Here are the steps you need to take.
Break down the two slices of bread into tiny bits. For this my wife used a handheld blender which made the bread into a powder.
Mix the flour and butter. Make sure the butter is cold and firm to begin with. Cut it into small pieces then use your fingers to work it into the flour. The end result should be powdery looking. If it clumps together into one big sticky yellow mass start again!
Add the bread and sugar to the flour and butter mix you just made. Mix it in.
Pour the pie filling into the pie pastry dish.
Put the crumble mix on top.
Put in a hot oven at 200C for around 25 minutes. I took mine out just when the top became the golden brown color I like.
Well, that’s it. A quick-and-easy cherry pie. This is a crumbly cherry pie so don’t expect a slice of it to be picture perfect. Mango ice cream with cherry pie is one of my favorite combinations. Try it!
