Santorini inspiration

Santorini was one of my sources of inspiration.

Inspiration Can Give Us Wings to Help Us Surmount the Difficulties We Face.

For some the search for loyal and true friends can be tough going. Personally, it took me years for the desert imagery that I associated with the realm of friendship to fade away.

My desire for closer, long term friendships runs in stark contrast with the amazing number of passive, short-term friendships I’m offered. If you are feeling weary and tired of the friendship search you are probably in need of inspiration.

It was inspiration that got me up on my feet again many years ago. In the right dosage inspiration grants you the power of flight. To keep going when you would otherwise stop. I find that it makes me incredibly resilient and persistent.

The Mother Load Stone of Inspiration

One thing you can do is create your own mother load stone of inspiration. Mine is made up of movie scenes, music, quotes, rags-to-riches stories, the teachings of motivational gurus, the language and imagery I use when thinking and talking about the subject of friendship and even places that I find inspirational.

Notice the kind of things that not only inspire you but also empower you to keep going in your search for good friends. Then be on the look out for more. I got a surprise when I did this. It’s as though inspiration was a friendly tribe up in the mountains. When they knew I was looking for them they came in great numbers and revealed themselves to me. They lit a bonfire and we danced and sung around it to the music the musicians played. Something very reminiscent of the Lion King!

The list goes on of things that inspire me. Heroic feats, bad ass characters, people who have mastered something and songs whose lyrics are relevant to my quest for friends. For those who are bewildered of where to look for inspiration I am writing a list below of a number of things that inspire me. While not everything that inspires me will inspire you you may garner enough ideas to get you started.

Inspiring Scenes in Movies

For movies, it’s scenes like King Theoden and Aragorn’s courageous attempt to ride their horses out of Helm’s Deep after it has fallen to the enemy. The scene strongly reminds me of what I did toward the end of my depression days. Tsu’tey’s courageous and desperate attempt to take out the soldiers on the airplane in the movie Avatar.

I find some of the fan made music videos of the computer game Mass Effect 2 inspirational, too. Strangely enough, I find bad ass, hard as nails characters like Riddick, Zaeed in ME2 and the Preacher in Pale Rider inspirational. I guess this is because they are tough, indomitable characters and I see in them a certain quality that I need. I’m too sensitive and soft for my liking.

Inspiring Places

For places, the first one that comes to mind is Santorini in Greece. It is the site of a volcanic explosion and now all that remains is a caldera. On this rock, people have built their homes, businesses and it manages to draw a lot of tourists. It’s known for it’s beautiful views among other things.

Why is that inspirational to me? The volcanic eruption reminds me of my bout of severe depression and going beyond the threshold of pain. I felt for a long time my life was a caldera and that I had something to learn from Santorini and it’s people. Perhaps it’s the fact that I can build on top of the hard rock of my life a meaningful existence. I kept pictures and videos of it on computer for awhile. I also find Dubai inspirational.

Inspiring Quotes

For quotes, Fortune favors the bold – Publius Terentius Afer. Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway – John Wayne. He who takes the initiative paves his way with gold – Phoenix. The world outside is merely a reflection of the world you have created inside. To be thrown upon one’s own resources is to be cast into the very lap of fortune – Benjamin Franklin. Difficulties vanish when faced boldly – Asimov.

When the heart finds the right path, the most evident sign is peace of spirit and happiness – Laurinda Alves. Dreams pass into the reality of action – Anais Nin. The secret of success is constancy to purpose – Benjamin Disraeli. Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity – Louis Pasteur. History will be kind to me for I intend to write it – Winston Churchill. If you can find humor in anything, even poverty, you can survive it – Bill Cosby.

Inspiring Language & Imagery

For language and inner imagery, you will find examples on my site once I’ve completed it that is. I talk in terms of the Magnificent Seven, Juggernaut, Angelics, Shifters and the Beacons of Gondor to name but a few. I am actually using terms that inspire me. There is also a lot of imagery. The Ruby Tablets, Illumination, Shrine, Portal, the Great Vortex and World Creation. See if you can think and imagine things in a way that can inspire you.

Inspiring Music

For music, I find myself drawn to epic music. Superhero movies often have this kind of music. The music you hear while King Theoden is giving his speech to the Riders of Rohan in the movie, Return of the King. The music in Mass Effect 2 when they go on the suicide run.

Seal’s song, Love’s Divine. R. Kelly’s, I Can Fly. Eye of the Tiger from the Rocky movie and the theme music from Chariots of Fire. One of the most important inspirational pieces of music in my collection is called Freedom Fighters. Check out the youtube video below if you’d like to hear it.
