Making Things from Model Kits is an Absorbing, Relaxing and Quiet Hobby
The hobby of building things from model kits certainly has it’s benefits.
The first one that comes to mind is that you get to make things that interest or inspire you including things that make you go ‘wow!’ Attack helicopters, jet fighters, battleships, aircraft carriers right on through to spaceships. How cool is that? This feeling can be heightened if the model is well-made and has a lot of detail.
If you’re not familiar with hobby shops go to a large one that that stocks a wide variety of models and you’ll probably be amazed! Even things you saw in movies like the spaceship Prometheus, the Batmobile or the gunship you saw in Avatar may be up for grabs.
Then there is a certain level of craftsmanship involved that can really make you feel rewarded if you do a good job. These involve the use of different kinds of tools like sanding materials, tweezers and side cutters. The use of substances like paints, glue and model putty. Techniques like dry brushing, washing and properly applying decals. If you become a serious hobbyist you’ll find there’s a lot to learn and skills that need to be developed.
Lastly, for those who have noisy occupations it’s great to sit in a quiet part of the house and build something. Peace and quiet is a part of the hobby you will most likely enjoy.
This page marks the start of a mini-store I’m creating that will showcase model kits especially those relating to the military and sci-fi. Check back here now-and-then for new models I’m featuring on my site.
For those of you already into the habit of buying model kits what is it that draws you to the hobby?
